It had been without food for some time, and had met with an accident that left it with a wound full of disgusting maggots. As the woman cleansed its gash the kitten did not struggle or complain, though she was causing it great pain. Rather it purred and looked into her eyes with such love and trust, it made her weep. Though she tried to save the poor animal it was too weak and gently died. A few days later she was before the Blessed Sacrament in Adoration. It was in the wee hours of the morning and she could think of little to say, so she asked her angel to remind her of anything that needed mentioning. The thought of the kitten immediately came to mind. A little bit embarrassed, she told Jesus about the incident, and even apologized for her tears and emotion over it. It seemed she had more feeling for this stray kitten than for most people she knew, and she felt this was wrong. It seemed then that Jesus asked her “Why do you think you loved it so?” After a moments reflection, she answered that it was because of its weakness and loving trust in her. It seemed then that Jesus said: “So now you understand. You are made in my image… Just as this stray kitten touched your heart with its trust regardless of the pain you inflicted, so do you touch Mine when you Trust in Me. I cannot resist you then. It does not matter how disgusting your wounds are, rather... the greater they are the more I love you, if only you look to Me with such trust.”

Yet Our Dear Lord Himself told us, that if we are to be worthy of Him, we must pick up our cross and follow Him. Let us comfort those in sorrow with the reassurance that God loves them, and this sorrow is something they can use to their advantage, if only they ask Our Dear Mother to show them the way. Back of card reads: Suffering When we suffer, we often feel as if God has forgotten us, abandoned us. That He no longer loves us. But this is not true! Rather, it is the opposite, difficult as it may be for us to understand. Those God loves most often suffer most. See His own Son, whose life on earth began and ended with suffering. Look at His dear Mother, whose Immaculate Heart was pierced with immense sorrow 7 times over! Go to our Sorrowful Mother in times of trial. She too asked Our Lord “Why?” Let us bring her our hurt and confusion, our questions. She understands better than anyone else our pains. She knows, as good mothers do, how to soothe our hurts and dry our tears. Let her mother you too.
